AIGI 26 General-Service Pump Packing
AIGI 26 is a dense braid of PTFE yarn coated with a graphite dispersion that carries frictional heat away from the shaft. It combines excellent leakage control with low friction and long service life, making it a true universal packing for general-service pumps. From plain water to the toughest chemical duties, one packing covers a remarkably broad range.
Product Benefits
- Dense braid construction: The dense construction is what sets AIGI 26 apart: tightly packed yarn seals better, holds its lubricant instead of letting it migrate out, and builds up less frictional heat.
- Longer life, fewer adjustments: That translates directly into longer packing life and fewer gland adjustments.
- Graphite heat dissipation: The graphite dispersion coating dissipates heat at the shaft surface, protecting both the packing and the sleeve.
- Full acid-to-alkali range: Chemically, the PTFE base handles the full spectrum from strong acids to strong alkalis, so a single stock item can serve pumps across very different process media.
- Simpler inventory: Standardising on one grade simplifies inventory and reduces the risk of installing the wrong packing.
Where It's Used
- General-service pumps: AIGI 26 is a general-service pump packing at heart.
- Tough chemical duties: Its chemical resistance also qualifies it for the toughest chemical applications.
- Everyday process media: Typical media include chemicals, water, acids, alkalis and light slurries, the everyday mix found in chemical plants, utilities and process industries.
Good to Know
- Black graphite colour: The packing is black due to its graphite content, which is worth remembering for services where product purity or colour contamination matters; the white all-PTFE sibling AIGI 26W suits those cases.
- Cored versions for runout: For shafts with significant radial runout, the same braid is available with resilient silicone-rubber cores as AIGI 26SC (single core) and AIGI 26MSC (multiple cores).
- Heat and speed tolerance: Thanks to the heat-dissipating graphite, it withstands high temperatures and respectable shaft speeds for a PTFE-based packing.
- Gentle run-in advised: As with any compression packing, a light initial gland load and gradual run-in will maximise its service life.
