Cyclone 318T Self-Cooling Single Seal

The Cyclone 318T is an internationally patented single mechanical seal for pumps running on clean water and oil. Its Cyclone induced-flow geometry keeps the seal-face chamber continuously cooled and cleaned, greatly reducing the need for external flush water.

Product Benefits

  • Beats the heat problem: Heat is what shortens the life of most seals on water and oil duty, and the conventional remedy is a permanent external flush line.
  • Induced-flow self-cooling: The 318T instead uses its patented Cyclone geometry to induce a fluid flow that carries heat away from the faces on its own, so the seal runs cooler without consuming flush water.
  • Longer life, lower costs: That self-cooling action translates into longer face life, lower water and utility costs, and a simpler installation.
  • No barrier-fluid complexity: As a single seal it avoids the complexity of barrier-fluid systems.

Where It's Used

  • Water and oil pumps: The 318T is intended for pump services on water and oil media. It is the clean-liquid counterpart to the particle-handling Cyclone 318J.
  • General clean duties: It suits general water and oil pumping duties.
  • Flushless reliability: It fits wherever reliable, low-maintenance sealing without a flush system is the goal.

Good to Know

  • Robust construction: Construction is robust for a clean-service seal: hard SC seal faces on both sides, FKM secondary seals and 316L stainless metal parts.
  • Corrosion-resistant springs: Hastelloy C springs provide corrosion resistance in the spring area.
  • Generous ratings: Pressure capability is generous for its class, alongside tolerance of hot media and high shaft speeds.
  • Particles? Choose 318J: Choose the 318T for clean media; if the pumped liquid carries abrasive particles, its self-cleaning sibling, the Cyclone 318J, is designed precisely for that job.
