AIGI 93K Multi-Service Packing
AIGI 93K is a multi-service packing that combines heat-dissipating PTFE/graphite yarn with high-strength lubricated aramid yarn. The soft yarn conforms to the shaft for excellent sealability, while aramid-reinforced corners resist extrusion under abrasive attack. It is an optimal choice for the most aggressive abrasion and slurry applications.
Product Benefits
- Resolves the slurry dilemma: Slurry service pulls packing in two directions: it must be soft enough to seal well, yet tough enough that abrasive particles do not chew it away or force it into the clearances. AIGI 93K resolves the conflict by putting each material where it works best.
- Conformable sealing faces: Conformable PTFE/graphite yarn sits against the shaft and stuffing-box bore for leakage control.
- Armoured corners: Wear-resistant aramid guards the corners, where extrusion and abrasion strike first, and gives the ring its structural backbone.
- Outlasts single materials: The PTFE/graphite yarn also dissipates frictional heat and protects the shaft sleeve, and the combination outlasts single-material packings in abrasive duty by a comfortable margin.
Where It's Used
- Abrasive slurry pumps: The natural habitat is pumps handling abrasive slurries, the most aggressive abrasion services a plant can offer.
- Heavy industries: Typical industries include mining, power plants, wastewater treatment, and steel and other metals processing.
- Everyday slurry equipment: In those sectors, slurry pumps are everyday equipment.
Good to Know
- Black-and-yellow braid: The two-yarn construction is visible in its black-and-yellow braid pattern: black PTFE/graphite in the sealing faces, yellow aramid at the corners.
- Chemical and heat limits: It handles a fairly wide pH range and moderate temperatures, though very strong acids and alkalis are better served by all-PTFE or graphite packings.
- Care for the sleeve: Aramid is a hard fibre, so pairing it with a good shaft-sleeve surface and flush water where the process allows will extend the life of both packing and sleeve.
- Controlled leak-off: As with any slurry packing, keeping a slight controlled leak-off for cooling is sound practice.
