AIGI 99 Super-High-Temperature/High-Pressure Valve Packing

AIGI 99 is a tight, densely interbraided flexible-graphite packing in which every yarn is reinforced with a nickel-wire mesh. That reinforcement gives the graphite the strength and blowout resistance it needs for the most demanding valve services: very hot, very high-pressure steam and a wide range of chemicals.

Product Benefits

  • Solves graphite's weakness: Flexible graphite seals superbly but is mechanically soft; under severe pressure it can extrude through clearances or blow out.
  • Nickel-wire reinforcement: The nickel-wire mesh around each yarn adds the strength to hold position under extreme pressure, while the graphite keeps doing what it does best: conforming to the stuffing box and sealing tightly.
  • Fewer interventions: The dense construction means fewer adjustments and a longer interval between repacks on critical valves, where every intervention carries cost and risk.
  • Near-full pH range: Chemically it spans essentially the full pH range, so one product covers steam and most process chemicals alike.

  • A valve packing first: AIGI 99 is first and foremost a valve packing, suitable for all types of valves.

  • Heavy process industries: Power plants, refineries, and petrochemical and chemical plants rely on it for steam and chemical duty.

Good to Know

  • Reinforced graphite yarn: The packing is black, built from nickel-wire-mesh-reinforced flexible-graphite yarn.
  • Oxygen service caution: Its temperature capability in oxygen service is lower than in steam, a standard precaution with graphite products that is worth checking whenever oxidising media are involved.
  • Retorque after heat-up: Like other graphite valve packings it beds in with modest gland stress and benefits from a retorque after the first thermal cycles.
  • Forgiving on worn valves: Its conformability makes it forgiving on valves whose stems and boxes have seen years of service.
