Alfa Laval

AC Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger

The Alfa Laval AC is a copper-brazed plate heat exchanger built for air-conditioning and refrigeration duty, where it works as an evaporator or condenser in chillers and heat pumps. Its brazed, gasket-free construction packs high-efficiency heat transfer into an exceptionally compact footprint.

Product Benefits

  • No gaskets to age: The plates are sealed by brazing at every contact point rather than by gaskets, so there are no elastomer seals to age or replace.
  • Light and compact: The whole unit stays light and compact, so it fits into tight machine rooms and packaged chiller designs without giving up thermal performance.
  • Even evaporator duty: An integrated refrigerant distribution system helps the unit perform evenly when it works as an evaporator.
  • Refrigerant freedom: Compatibility with most HFC, HFO and natural refrigerants gives designers room to move as refrigerant regulations evolve.
  • Full-vacuum rated: The design is also rated for full-vacuum conditions.

Where It's Used

  • Air conditioning and refrigeration: The AC range is aimed squarely at these two fields.
  • Chillers and heat pumps: Both use the unit as the evaporator or the condenser.
  • Cascade systems: It also serves in cascade arrangements where two refrigeration circuits are linked.

Good to Know

  • Materials: Construction pairs stainless steel plates with copper brazing and stainless steel cover plates.
  • Connection options: External thread, internal thread and soldering are all available.
  • Approvals: Units carry PED and UL approvals.
  • Keep the water side clean: A brazed unit cannot be opened for mechanical cleaning, so the secondary circuit should stay clean and well filtered.
  • Selection by duty: Selection is matched to the refrigerant and the duty, so it pays to share your operating conditions when specifying.
