Alfa Laval
SE Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers
The Alfa Laval SE is a copper-brazed plate heat exchanger thermally optimized for propane, working as an evaporator or condenser in chillers and heat pumps. Asymmetric channels deliver high efficiency while keeping the refrigerant charge low, in a compact, gasket-free, pressure- and leak-tested unit.
Product Benefits
- Designed for low charge: As the industry moves toward natural refrigerants, propane systems must keep their refrigerant charge as small as safely possible, and the SE was designed around exactly that constraint.
- Channels tuned to propane: The asymmetric channel geometry is tuned for propane, so thermal performance stays strong with a noticeably lower charge than a general-purpose exchanger would need.
- Stable evaporator performance: An integrated distribution system spreads refrigerant evenly across the plate pack.
- Compact and low-maintenance: The brazed, gasket-free construction keeps the unit small and largely maintenance-free.
- Tested and vacuum tolerant: Every unit is pressure- and leak-tested, and the design tolerates full vacuum.
Where It's Used
- Air conditioning and refrigeration: The SE serves these systems as a core component.
- Chillers and heat pumps: It takes the role of evaporator or condenser in both.
- Low-GWP conversions: It is a natural fit for equipment makers and plants adopting propane as a low-GWP working fluid.
Good to Know
- Materials: Construction is stainless steel plates with copper brazing and stainless cover plates.
- Connections and approval: Connections are available as external thread, internal thread, soldering or welding, and the unit is PED approved.
- Pair it with propane: Because it is optimized for propane, use it with that refrigerant to realize the intended efficiency and charge benefits.
- Sealed unit: As a brazed unit it cannot be opened for cleaning, so keep the secondary circuit clean and filtered.
