T20B Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

The Alfa Laval T20B is a compact gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchanger for high-throughput industrial, hygienic and utility duties. It is built from a pack of corrugated metal plates, each sealed by a rubber gasket, compressed between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate, so the heat-transfer area is easily changed by adding or removing plates.

Product Benefits

  • Matched to the duty: The bolted plate-pack construction is the T20B's core advantage: plate material, plate count and gasket type can all be matched precisely to the duty.
  • Reconfigurable frame: The same frame can be reconfigured later if the process changes.
  • Buy only what you need: Compared with fixed-geometry exchangers, that means you buy only the heat-transfer area you need today without closing off tomorrow's options.
  • Opens on site: Because the unit opens by slackening the tightening bolts, inspection, mechanical cleaning and gasket replacement are straightforward maintenance tasks rather than workshop jobs.
  • Short downtime: This keeps downtime short and extends the practical service life of the exchanger.

Where It's Used

  • High-throughput services: The T20B is aimed at high-throughput heating and cooling duties in industrial, hygienic and utility services.
  • Process and utility streams: Typical roles include cooling and heating of process streams and utility media.
  • Where servicing matters: It fits installations where an easily serviced, compact exchanger is preferred over welded or shell-and-tube alternatives.

Good to Know

  • Standard and alloyed plates: Most units are supplied with plates in the widely used stainless steel grades, but highly alloyed stainless steels, titanium, nickel and nickel-based alloys are also available for more corrosive media.
  • Gasket choices: Gaskets are most commonly nitrile or EPDM, with FKM and PTFE options for tougher chemical or temperature conditions.
  • Coated carbon steel frame: The frame and pressure plate are carbon steel with a water-based two-component epoxy coating.
  • Documented environmental profile: Alfa Laval documents the range's environmental profile: manufacturing under ISO 14001 management systems, self-declaration per ISO 14021, paint application per ISO 12944-2, and screening of components against EU legislation, the REACH Candidate List and the Montreal Protocol, with SCIP reporting where applicable.
  • Ratings confirmed at quotation: Model-specific pressure and temperature ratings are confirmed at quotation stage for the selected configuration.
