Alfa Laval

TL6B Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

The Alfa Laval TL6B is a compact-frame gasketed plate heat exchanger from the Industrial line. Its relatively tall plate is shaped for long temperature programs and high heat recovery, packaged in a frame that fits where floor space is limited. The plate pack opens easily for inspection and cleaning.

Product Benefits

  • Close temperature approaches: The tall-plate geometry achieves approaches that a generic compact exchanger would struggle to match, making it an efficient choice for smaller recovery and interchanging duties.
  • Fast payback: High heat recovery at this scale often pays back quickly through reduced heating and cooling costs.
  • Fine-tuned selection: A wide range of plate and gasket types allows the unit to be matched to the fluids and temperatures involved.
  • Capacity can be revised: Thermal capacity can be changed later simply by adjusting the plate count.
  • Pressure vessel approvals: The design carries pvcALS, ASME and PED approvals.

Where It's Used

  • Modest flow rates: Expect to find it on heating, cooling and heat-recovery services with long temperature programs at modest flow rates.
  • Process and utility positions: It works equally well in process duties and in utility positions.
  • Hygienic and process sectors: Its industry reach mirrors the rest of the family: biotech and pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy and utilities, food, dairy and beverages, and home and personal care.
  • Utility and heavy industry: HVAC and refrigeration, machinery and manufacturing, marine and transportation, mining, minerals and pigments, pulp and paper, semiconductor and electronics, steel, and water and waste treatment complete the list.

Good to Know

  • Plates and gaskets: Plates are available in stainless steel and nickel executions, with gaskets in NBR, EPDM, FKM and HeatSeal elastomers.
  • Epoxy-painted frame: The frame and cover are epoxy-painted carbon steel.
  • Flexible connections: Connection options are unusually flexible for the size, covering threaded ISO and NPT forms as well as studded ports to ASME, EN and JIS flange practice, which eases retrofits into existing pipework.
  • Gasket and inspection planning: Keep gasket selection aligned with the hotter side of the duty, and use the openable pack to schedule periodic plate inspection.
