ITT Goulds Pumps
3181 High-Temperature / Pressure Paper Stock / Process Pumps
The Goulds 3181 is a heavy-duty paper stock and process pump built for the hottest, highest-pressure services in a pulp mill. Its centerline-mounted casing and enclosed high-efficiency impeller keep it dimensionally stable and hydraulically efficient where a conventional end-suction pump would struggle.
Product Benefits
- Centerline-mounted casing: The casing is supported at its midline, so the pump stays aligned as it heats up and cools down. This is a key reliability factor in high-temperature liquor and hot-oil services.
- Self-venting discharge: The top centerline discharge is self-venting.
- Easy maintenance access: The back pull-out design with a spacer-type coupling lets maintenance crews reach the rotating element without disturbing the piping or the motor.
- Renewable performance: Renewable casing and impeller wear rings, combined with external impeller adjustment, make it practical to restore as-new performance in the field.
- Long seal life, shared spares: The TaperBore PLUS seal chamber promotes long mechanical seal life, and because the power end and impellers interchange with the Goulds 3180 and 3185, mills can consolidate their spare-parts inventory across the family.
Where It's Used
- Hot, pressurized liquor duties: The 3181 is aimed squarely at the hot, pressurized side of the pulp mill: digester recirculation, make-up liquor, and white and black liquor transfer.
- Hot oil and beyond: It also handles hot oil and other high-temperature, high-pressure pulp-mill services where thermal stability matters as much as hydraulic performance.
- Pulp and paper focus: Fluindo supplies this pump for the pulp and paper industry, where it typically serves the digester and chemical recovery areas of kraft mills.
Good to Know
- Wide material choices: Material options run from cast iron and carbon steel up to CD4MCuN, high-alloy stainless and duplex stainless steels, so the wetted end can be matched to the corrosiveness of the liquor.
- High-temperature details: A confined spiral-wound stainless steel casing gasket and standard labyrinth seals reflect the pump's high-temperature design intent.
- Inch-dimensioned model: This is the inch-dimensioned model with ANSI-style flange drilling; its metric twin is the Goulds 3186, which shares the same hydraulic design with ISO or JIS flanges.
- 50 and 60 Hz coverage: The hydraulic line is designed to give full coverage on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz power systems.
