ITT Goulds Pumps

AF Axial Flow Pumps

The Goulds Model AF is a heavy-duty axial-flow propeller pump made for one job: circulating enormous volumes of liquid at low head, continuously and economically. It is offered in both cast and large fabricated sizes and in a wide range of corrosion-resistant alloys, which makes it a natural fit for corrosive and abrasive process solutions.

Product Benefits

  • Efficient high-volume circulation: For circulation duties, an axial-flow design moves far more liquid per unit of power than a centrifugal pump forced to the same task.
  • Matched hydraulics: The high-efficiency propeller with multiple vane angles lets the hydraulics be matched closely to the duty point.
  • Low NPSH requirements: Low NPSH needs suit the flooded, low-margin suction conditions typical of evaporator loops.
  • Back pull-out maintenance: Back pull-out construction on the cast sizes simplifies maintenance without breaking the main piping joints.

Where It's Used

  • Evaporators and crystallizers: The AF is the classic circulator for evaporators and crystallizers.
  • Pulp and paper service: In mills it handles black liquor evaporator circulation and chlorine dioxide generator service.
  • Large low-head duties: It also covers reactor circulation, mineral processing, flood control, and large water-transfer duties where huge flows at modest head are the requirement.

Good to Know

  • Aggressive-chemistry materials: Materials range from cast iron through austenitic stainless steels, duplex alloys, nickel-based alloys, and titanium, so the wetted end can be matched to aggressive chemistry.
  • Cast and fabricated sizes: The line spans cast constructions in the smaller-to-mid range and fabricated constructions at the largest sizes, with even larger builds available on request.
  • Flexible configurations: Top or end suction configurations give layout flexibility.
  • Selection basics: Selection is chiefly a matter of matching vane angle, materials, and orientation to the circulation loop.
