ITT Goulds Pumps
Goulds 5150 / VJC Vertical Cantilever Bottom Suction Pumps
The Goulds 5150 and VJC are vertical cantilever, bottom-suction sump pumps built for corrosive and extremely abrasive slurries. With no bearings below the mounting plate and suction taken right at the sump floor, they keep pumping where submerged-bearing designs wear out.
Product Benefits
- Cantilever shaft design: Nothing rotates in the liquid except the shaft and impeller, so there are no submerged bearings or bushings to be ground away by abrasive solids or attacked by corrosive liquor.
- Bottom suction: Suction taken at the sump floor draws solids directly off the bottom, helping keep the pit clean instead of letting sediment accumulate.
- Wear managed by design: A dual volute casing balances radial loads, the suction cover carries a renewable liner, and external impeller adjustment restores clearances as parts wear.
- Drive flexibility: Direct or belt drive gives flexibility in matching pump speed to the duty.
Where It's Used
- Abrasive slurry sumps: Typical services are lime and ash slurries, green liquor dregs and other abrasive slurries: the punishing sump duties found around a kraft mill's causticizing and recovery areas.
- Sizeable solids: It handles sizeable solids and works in pits of moderate depth.
- Pulp and paper focus: Fluindo supplies the 5150 and VJC for the pulp and paper industry, wherever abrasive slurry sumps defeat ordinary sump pumps.
Good to Know
- Material by duty: The VJC comes standard in cast iron, while the 5150 uses high-chrome iron for severe abrasion; 316 stainless steel is optional where corrosion dominates. Matching the material to whether wear or corrosion is the main enemy is the key selection decision.
- Planned wear parts: The semi-open impeller and renewable suction liner are designed as wear parts, so budgeting them into the maintenance plan keeps overhauls predictable.
- Depth limits: Since the shaft is unsupported below the plate, pit depth is inherently limited; deeper sumps call for a different pump style.
