HSD Horizontal Hydro-Solids Pumps

The Goulds HS Horizontal Hydro-Solids pump is a recessed-impeller centrifugal pump made for liquids that carry large, stringy or fibrous solids. Because the impeller sits fully out of the main flow path, any spherical solid that enters the suction passes straight through the discharge, making the pump exceptionally resistant to clogging.

Product Benefits

  • Clog-free by design: Where conventional impellers snag rags, fibre and bulky debris, the fully recessed design lets the flow carry solids through without contact.
  • Handles entrained air: The pump tolerates entrained air, which trips up many standard centrifugal designs on waste and effluent services.
  • Low radial loads: A heavy-duty concentric casing virtually eliminates radial shaft loading, which protects bearings and seals over the long run.
  • Back pull-out servicing: The rotating element can be serviced without disturbing the piping.

Where It's Used

  • Fibrous mill streams: In pulp and paper service, the HS handles paper stock, black liquor, mill scale and clarifier sludge.
  • True non-clog duty: These streams are full of fibre and irregular solids and demand a genuinely non-clog pump.
  • Fewer interventions: It suits any point in the mill where blockages would mean frequent, messy interventions.

Good to Know

  • Material options: Choices run from cast iron for general duty, to high chrome iron for abrasive services, to 316 stainless steel where corrosion resistance matters.
  • Extra-thick wet end: The casing and impeller are extra thick to absorb wear from abrasive solids.
  • Maintenance details: A full-length hook-type shaft sleeve protects the shaft in the wetted zone, and bearings can be oil or grease lubricated to suit site practice.
  • Selection note: As with any recessed-impeller pump, it trades some efficiency for its solids-passing ability, so it is best reserved for services where clog resistance is the priority.
